The PRE-LEAP-RE project is a collaborative initiative that aims to lay the groundwork for long-term cooperation between Africa and Europe in the field of renewable energy. Recognizing the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions tailored to societal and regional needs, PRE-LEAP-RE focuses on strengthening research and innovation capabilities across the two continents. Within its fourteen-month duration, the project is tasked with preparing a European Joint Programme (EJP) to serve as a platform for future African Union-European Union (AU-EU) activities in renewable energy.
The project's objectives include identifying shared research priorities, formulating a joint Research and Innovation Agenda, and designing the organisational and funding principles necessary for implementing a collaborative programme. By bringing together national funding agencies, researchers, and key stakeholders from Europe and Africa, PRE-LEAP-RE fosters a pathway to transformative innovation. It emphasises bridging technological advancements and societal needs while addressing gaps in capacity and resources through education, research, and institutional development. The initiative ultimately aims to establish a sustainable AU-EU platform for renewable energy collaboration, creating a robust stakeholder network and driving impactful energy transformation efforts across Africa and Europe.
