A new project funded by the European Commission has just been launched and will contribute to identifying and formulating a strategic jointly designed Research and Innovation Agenda for renewable energy (RE) collaboration between Europe and Africa and establishing the organizational principles for its implementation in a forthcoming Joint Programme, bringing together national funding agencies from EU and African States and involving key European and African actors of energy research. PRE-LEAP-RE – which stands for ‘PREparing for a Long-Term Joint EU-AU Research and Innovation Partnership on Renewable Energy’– will prepare a European Joint Programme (EJP) in the field of RE.
The kick-off meeting
During 14 months the consortium, a blend of European and African institutions, will put their effort together in order to elaborate an EJP in the field of Renewable Energy. The consortium shall bring together national funding agencies of EU member states, African States and other key EU-AU actors involved in Energy Research toward the future EJP.
Hosted by InnoEnergy (one of the project partners) in Brussels on 10 July, the PRE-LEAP-RE Kick-off meeting was the occasion for participants to meet in person and also to draw up a detailed work plan for the challenging and exciting months to come. Moreover, they had the pleasure to welcome the EU Project Officers.
